Make a Difference in Colorado Springs: Volunteer Opportunities to Change Your Community

Are you looking for ways to make a positive impact in your community? Colorado Springs offers a variety of volunteer opportunities that can help you do just that. From keeping parks and trails clean to joining one of the city's many boards, commissions, and committees, there are plenty of ways to get involved and make a difference. The City Harvest food program collects donated perishable and non-perishable food and the City Harvest Food Bank distributes it to more than 70 pantries and community food banks serving low-income families and homeless people throughout the Denver metro area. You can also help families escape homelessness at the reception of the Volunteers of America family motel.

The support of volunteers makes it possible for more than 50 Volunteers of America programs to empower more than 200,000 people each year in Colorado. This project brings together volunteers, community members, and leaders from across the region (vision councils) to collect and evaluate data and set goals (called “priority areas”) in several categories. For those looking for court-ordered community service, there is a link included in the “Mandatory Community Service Only” section. I joined CASA through a friend who introduced me to the organization through their Light of Hope event in 2003. Thanks to a digital equity grant from the city of Colorado Springs, Catholic Charities of Central Colorado will be one of seven beneficiaries that are embarking. Volunteer participation is an important part of your involvement with Pikes Peak United Way.

Participating in corporate volunteering opportunities helps strengthen your team. It's also a great opportunity to learn about local agencies and see how their financial support has an effect on our community. So if you're looking for ways to make a difference in your community, consider volunteering in Colorado Springs. You'll be helping to make your city a better place to live, work, and play.
